Excel Wierdness

What The !?

You know in MS Excel, when you enter an email address, it automatically hyperlinks it. If you don't want the hyperlinks, you right click and select 'remove hyperlink'.

But if you have a whole bunch of them, selecting them all, and right clicking doesn't give you an option to remove all the hyperlinks. You have to do it one by one.

Or so I thought.

Here's a wacky solution from Microsoft.
  1. type the number one (1) into any empty cell.
  2. copy the cell.
  3. select all the cells you want to remove hyperlinks from.
  4. right click on the selection and choose Paste Special.
  5. in the operations section, select multiply.
  6. Click on Ok.
All done.

Huh?!

Does this make sense to anyone?? Anyone? Beuller?

A special prize to whomever can explain the eternal question: why?!

I've long since given up on understanding excel's black magic, and simply hope to find a practical solution - and I'm a power user, being an engineer and all ;o). I go to places like exceltip.com, exceltips.vitalnews.com, or this book called excel hacks: www.oreilly.com/catalog/excelhks/
